Nikita Robb had a good start to the second half of 2007 and is on track to qualifying for the women’s World Championship Tour for 2008. Before July, Nikita was lying in 10th position on the women’s WQS, only her first year on tour. If this wasn’t enough, she traveled to Durban, South Africa, to compete in the Mr Price Pro in early July.
She competed in the women’s junior division as a warm up and took out the title: “I am really stoked with my win and it has given me a lot of confidence going into the main event. The waves were tricky in the final but I had been watching the ocean before the final and I noticed the wide ones were better, and I managed to secure one of them on my second to last wave to maximize my scoring potential and take out the win,” said Nikita.
The confidence definitely helped and at the main event, the 5 star rated WQS, she made it all the way to the quarter finals where she was narrowly beaten by Australian WCT surfer, Rebecca Woods. With only needing a 3 point ride to advance in the last 7 minutes, a wave did not come through and she was eventually knocked out of the event in 5th place.
This is Nikita’s best result on the WQS thus far and has bumped her up into 7th position on the WQS and looking good to qualify for the WCT at the end of the year.
Nikita is off to America to compete in the 6 star US Open of Surfing at the end of July and from there she heads straight to England where she will be competing in the 5 star Boardmasters down in Newquay. With her great results in Durban, her sponsors Lizzy, the girls division of Lizzard International, are confident Nikita will solidify her placing in the top 8 on the WQS and which will see her qualify for the women’s WCT in 2008.
