Polar Explorer Talks in Edinburgh

World famous polar explorer and Ski Club President Robert Swan is to give a motivational talk about his record-breaking expeditions and mission to help preserve the Antarctic in Edinburgh this autumn.

Robert Swan is the first man to walk to both the North and South Poles, and following on from this feat he has led a series of educational Antarctic expeditions. Widely thought to be one of the world’s top motivational speakers, last year Swan gave a talk at the Royal Geographical Society, London, to a packed audience of over 500. This year he has come back from his latest polar expedition to give another talk about his adventures and his mission to preserve the Antarctic wilderness.

Swan’s mission is to try and raise awareness and encourage others to take steps that will help protect the planet. His work and achievements can be seen at the 2041 website, named so because 2041 is the year that the Environmental Protocol of the Antarctic Treaty comes up for review. Antarctica is currently protected by a treaty prohibiting mining and drilling until 2041. The treaty states that Antarctica can only be used for educational, scientific and peaceful purposes. This agreement may change after 2041.

The talk, ‘A Journey to the Antarctic: Preserving the Wilderness’ will take place on Thursday, October 11th 2007 at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. To book visit the Ski Club website or call 0845 45 807 80. Bar open from 6pm, talk at 7pm. Tickets from £6.
