We’re looking very forward already to the London Surf / Film Festival going down in the British capital in October and not just because they give us a chance to follow one of our favourite activities on the big screen, but also because they give up and coming film making talent their chance to shine in the Shorties Contest!
“We established TheShorties short film competition as a way to celebrate the wealth of homegrown surf filmmaking talent that is emerging from our shores,” says London Surf / Film Festival founder Chris Nelson “The last few weeks aside, it’s been a difficult season on our fair isles in terms of the weather and the waves and a number of filmmakers have been in touch to say a little extra time would really make the difference to their cinematic masterpieces. We’re not ones to let bureaucracy stand in the way of creativity so we’ve extended the deadline for Shorties submissions to 31st AUGUST 2012.”

While submissions to the main festival is open to all, The Shorties, presented by Environmental Partners the National Trust is open exclusively to filmmakers from or based in the UK or Ireland. Surfing and surf culture are wide open to interpretation so we welcome entries of up to 5 minutes in length that explore all aspects and angles of our lifestyle through any film genre from documentary to stop frame and anything in between. The pick of the films will be screened as part of the programme during the London Surf / Film Festival which takes place 11-14 October at the iconic Riverside Studios and judged by some of the most influential names in surfing in the category of Shortie of the Year.
