Unless you live behind the moon or in a caved snowed in somewhere, there’s no excuse for not knowing the Winter X Games went down in Aspen this weekend! There are many valid ones though for not having watched any highlights yet – preferrably snow-related. And for those lucky ones, here’s a little rund up of the highlights.
With the half pipe finals being especially exciting and Kelly Clark scoring her third consecutive X Games gold by a hair’s breadth lead of 0.33 points, despite Elena Hight breaking records by landing the first ever backside ally-oop double rodeo 900. Her stoke was not marginal at all though: “It’s amazing being here and claiming gold for the third time in a row.I only won by a small margin, but tonight was not about my win, it was what Elena has done for Women’s Snowboarding, I’m so proud of her.” The third place was taken by 16 year old young local Arielle Gold from Colorado, for whom you should watch out a lot more in the future!
The slopestyle contest wasn’t graced with much better conditions than the pipe and so a lot of the riders had problems clearing the jumps. Competition machine and the World’s Number One contest rider Jamie Anderson managed to fly her tricks home anyways, bagging her second consecutive X Games gold and 4th medal in total. Second up was Czech eagle Sarka Pancochova, followed up by one of our last cover girls, Spencer O’Brien in third.
The ski girls caused even more of a stir, with 17 year old Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen winning slopestyle gold as youngest X Games medalist of all times.
