We often feel deep profound love for Kassia Meador as regular readers will know only too well and this latest (HEADSPACE) interview by Zach Weisberg of The Inertia (part of the same series which brought us this awesome Carissa Moore interview) further cements those feelings. She’s just so sound, dispensing sane wisdom on subjects ranging from sex appeal in surfing to measuring contests to going to see Arachnophobia as a kid.
Interview nuggets include:
The world needs freesurfers and competitive surfers, if it was just freesurfing a lot of people wouldn’t be that into it and if it was just competitive surfing a lot of people wouldn’t be that into it.
The oldest profession in our humanity is prostitution…women have been using sex and sex appeal to do things since the beginning of time. I’m not saying women’s surfing is prostitution whatsoever but…for people to be like it’s disgusting to see a girl in a bikini it’s like really do you not know anything about the world…there’s sex appeal used for men’s surfing all the time.
Some people need sex appeal to turn them onto something some people want to see performance, what I want to see when I see girls surfing is girls surfing well
People also need to chill out you know people get so uptight about so many things at the end of the day it’s just surfing, people are riding big pieces of foam on the water there’s really nothing that serious about that if you break it down…
We’re here to hopefully inspire other people in the world to go take a moment and have a good time.
Zach tells us the interview could have been an extra 30 minutes long and still super interesting and full of insight which doesn’t surprise us much at all. She rules.
