What does a strong woman look like? Does she wear lots of make-up, is born into royalty and wears dresses like a Disney princess?
No. Well not all of them. That’s what photographer Jaime Moore wanted to teach her five-year-old daughter, Emma.
“I noticed quite a pattern of so many young girls dressing up as beautiful Disney Princesses,” says Moore on her website. “No matter where I looked, 95% of the “ideas” were how to dress your little girl like a Disney Princess.”
So, Moore decided to do something different. She wanted her daughter to know about and admire real women, not just princesses from a fairytale.
“My daughter wasn’t born into royalty, but she was born into a country where she can now vote, become a doctor, a pilot, an astronaut, or even President if she wants.
“I wanted her to know the value of these amazing women who had gone against everything so she can now have everything.”
What did they do to celebrate Emma’s fifth birthday? Moore dressed her up as five powerful, inspirational women from history and took these portraits – including Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller, Coco Chanel, Susan R. Anthony and Jane Goodall.
