Based in Cornwall, this series of videos has been created by the people behind Kneehigh Theatre, a theatre group making theatre for a national and international audience, that brings communities together and tells unheard stories.
This Photographer Is Empowering Girls Everywhere By Showing Them That ‘Strong Is The New Pretty’
To create these videos, local poet Anna Maria Murphy and her friends have been walking in Cornwall, collecting and re-interpreting stories and memories from the people they met along the way. The stories are then read by Dawn French and brought to life by local film makers Lizzie Black, Brett Harvey and Mae Voogd.
Their most recent video tells the story of Peranporth’s ‘Ladies Who Surf.’ Looking back to a time before wetsuits and boards, it looks at the woollen full body suits that women used to have to wear and the ways they managed to surf against all odds.
