Travelling with kids is a nightmare, right? Well it doesn’t have to be – as the Meyer family set out to prove.
Brittany and Scott started sailing back in 2012 from Chicago all the way to New York, down the East Coast, across to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands and finally stopping in Grenada.
Then they got pregnant with baby Isla – but that didn’t stop them continuing their journey. After Isla was born, they cruised back from Florida to the Caribbean and continued their adventure.
Not long afterwards, they got pregnant AGAIN – with two twins! Now the family of five, with three girls under the age of three, live on the British Virgin Islands while saving money for their next adventure.
They have had their ups and downs – after all it is not easy raising toddlers – but the kids have been brought up to experience so many different cultures and see the world from a different perspective.
“If I could give a one word answer to describe why we are doing what we are doing, it would be: freedom,” writes Brittany on their blog.
“It is the way we want to live. It feels right. We are the masters of our own destiny. The possibilities are endless and, out here, there seems to be nothing standing in our way and nobody to tell us no.”
The Meyers family have travelled more than 10,000 nautical miles and visited 13 countries.
Their kids have named their own pet barracuda, played with baby sharks, watched flamingos in the wild and sleep with the sound of the ocean every night.
