This Couple Just Spent Three Weeks Trekking Up Everest To Get Married At Base Camp

Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson just achieved our ultimate wedding goals....

There are many different ways for a couple to tie the knot nowadays. No longer does a wedding have to mean a church, a hall and a big cake, it can be as individual as the people at the centre of it.

Here at Cooler  we’ve seen all kinds of celebrations. From forest weddings, to skateboarder themes, even deep sea diving nuptials, if the bride and groom have a passion for the outdoors, there’s always a way to include it in the wedding. All other weddings we’ve come across have now been outdone however, by this big day.

Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson, a  couple from California, said ‘I do’ last week in the most incredible way – at Mount Everest base camp.

The couple trekked for six weeks to reach the base camp and had to deal with challenging elements, difficult terrain and serious altitude sickness to reach their destination.

Along with them, they had specialist photography  Charleton Churchill and a team of guides and fellow mountaineers.

‘After much deliberation, we decided a traditional wedding was not the right fit for us” Natalie explained in an interview.

“As much as we would have loved to share our special day with our family and friends, we were both drawn to the idea of eloping during an incredible vacation.”

‘We both are avid lovers of the outdoors and had experience at altitude up to 14,000 feet, but we knew the three week Everest Base Camp trek would be far more physically and mentally demanding than anything we’ve experienced.’

After a year of planning, weeks of adventuring and a lot of energy, the couple put on their formal wear and tied the know in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

It might no be the easiest wedding plan to pull off, but this certainly a day they’ll never forget. When weddings cost so much to do right in the UK, we think the idea to that money could be better spent on an adventure and the chance to do things a little differently.
