I’m obsessed with travelling to places where you can surf every day. I’ve spent more than 17 years weaving fun surf and delicious coconuts into a ‘normal’ life of university and ‘real’ jobs. But I’ve gradually become too precious for hostel dorms and surf camps: I now need my own bathroom, kitchen, a massage therapist on speed dial and waves that won’t scare the crap out of me. And I also need bomb-proof wifi and a good place to work.
Last year, while my partner and I were living by the beach in Peru, it occurred to me that I’m not alone in my surf-lifestyle wishlist. Many adventurous people who freelance or have the flexibility to work remotely also want to surf before breakfast, get their work done and experience other cultures. But it is a ton of work to plan a trip that meets all those marks and most people don’t have the time to pull it together. And they can’t afford to show up somewhere to find out the wifi, surf or vibe isn’t what they’d hoped.
We wanted the next chapter of our lives should be about meeting great people, doing something rewarding together and putting our skills in surf travel-planning, adventure tour management and remote work to good use. Some deep thinking happened, we created an idea and called it Unleash.
Unleash sets up everything an adventurous professional’s heart desires while travelling and working remotely: excellent wifi, private-apartments, a custom-designed co-working space, a curated list of the best places to eat and surf, great people to hang out with, Spanish classes, yoga, surf instruction and weekend tours and surf trips.
The idea is to enable people to release from their busy patterns so they have time to get their work done, get good at surfing, figure out the best peddler of fresh-juice or chocolate cake, learn something new, go hiking or surfing in different places on the weekends and have a real experience of life.
Unleash is taking applications for Peru in February and March 2018 with an add-on option of visiting Machu Picchu.
