There will be 12 main riders featured in the Scratch the Surface skate film, here in short is an introduction to each:
EVELIEN BOUILLIART (BELGIUM) – At the age of 10, Evelien started her career on rollerblades. She soon progressed to skateboarding when a new park was built close to her home. Evelien broke into the worldwide spotlight in 2005 when she won the Prague Mystic Cup, the Munich Girls Push Jam as well as placing second in the X-Games all in the same year. She is a regular coach for the summer Girlie Camps, as she believes strongly in supporting the female skateboarding scene and helping other women gain more self-confidence through it.
MONICA SHAW (AUSTRALIA) – Monica appeared on the first ever female skateboard film ‘AKA: Girls Skater’ produced by Gallaz (sister company to Globe). The film documented an all-female crew tour around her native Australia. She went on to appear in Lisa Whitaker’s ‘Getting Nowhere Faster’ and in the Australian feature film ‘Deck Dogz’ as a stunt double for the character of Baby T. Monica was introduced to skating by her 3 older brothers who coerced her into it with a hand me down Plan B board with tiny 90’s style wheels.
KATE SHENGELIYA (RUSSIA) –. Growing up in a small suburb of Moscow, Kate strongly recognizes the role her sponsors have played in giving her the chance to progress her career as a professional rider - allowing her to attend tours and travel to competitions. The only female professional in her country, she relocates to Barcelona or to other warmer climates when trying to counteract the cold Russian winter months. Her favorite days are when she can eat ice cream, drink coffee, and go ride a new street spot!
MIMI KNOOP (USA) – Winner of 5 X-Games medals and co-founder and vice president of the non-profit organization The Alliance - a charity whose aim it is to promote and gain exposure for female riders. More recently Mimi created Hoopla Skateboards alongside Cara-Beth Burnside. The company was setup to help support female skateboarders, from those who are just starting out to the pros. Aside from her accomplishments on her board Mimi is also recognised for her talents as a multimedia artist.
CHARLOTTE BORRA (ITALY) – At the age of three Lottie was a gold medalist tricycle Olympiad. Several years later she found a skateboard in her back garden, started to use it and as it turned out, she was pretty good. This young rider is quickly proving herself a force majestic. Half Italian/half Kiwi, Lottie currently lives in a remote village in Northern Italy where she cultivates her passion for skateboarding and organic chemistry. Admittedly the neighbours aren't particularly pleased by the noise she makes, but she does have her own supporters from all branches of the animal kingdom.
LUCY ADAMS (UNITED KINGDOM) – Generally referred to as the cornerstone of the UK’s female skateboarding scene, she has ridden all over the world and consistently placed in competitions. Her profession as an Extreme Sports Officer for Crawley Council allows her to develop and promote non-traditional sports such as skateboarding, BMXing, Mountain Biking and Parkour and to also be directly involved with the promotion of skateboarding to the younger generation.
