Snowboard Movie Reviews

I love snowboard movies. I can’t say exactly why, as I’m for sure not the type to replay a certain trick over and over in order memorise and repeat in the park the next day. Neither am I geographically versed enough to try and figure out where a certain spot, mountain or kicker lies and whether I’ve been there before. Living almost a snowball’s throw from the Bavarian alps, I don’t even need them to get a fix for my shred hunger as Tyrolian glaciers are just a morning’s car ride away and open from October on.

And yet, year after year, I get more excited on the brand new snowboard flicks to drop than any movie starring Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Colin Farrell butt naked. And working for a magazine that means middle of August – when the first previews drop and the rest of the world is still baking in the sun or cooling down in some kind of liquid.

When the screen turns dark and the first letters appear behind dramatic blurs, the riders names are highlighted in slow motion and the music kicks in, I feel like like X Mas and my first rollercoaster rider at the same time, freezeing with my chin on my tucked up knees, eyes fixed on the moving images before me.

I love the mystery and the prelude the movie productions like to build up before the first part, I could jump from the buzz that a beat edited perfectly on the turn gives me and wanna scream “again” after most credits have passed the screen. And while it’s obviously amazing to see what the pro girls out there are pulling off and getting inspired by them, I enjoy watching the guys throwing down just as much, which is why, for the first time ever, we’ve decided to include some of their epic footage in our movie round up, too.
