Yoga Retreats

Yoga retreats all sound so tempting, don't they?

Beaches, palms trees, healthy organic food, multiple yoga session per day - it beats practicing once a week in your local church hall, doesn't it?

We've put together some of the very best yoga retreats for adventurous women.

Whether you surf, dive, ski or just fancy lapping up the life of luxury, there's something for everyone in here...

Soul & Surf Yoga Retreat

We've been eyeing up Soul & Surf's yoga retreats for a while now.

Based in Kerala, India, you can escape to the spiritual home of yoga while surfing some southern waves at the same time.

Founders Ed and Sofie Templeton have built up their surf camp around healthy eating, catching waves and practicing yoga twice a day, but they're "not going to lock you up if you also like to unwind with a few drinks in the evening".

They also have a great approach to sustainable surf tourism, bringing industry to the local community without exploitation. We like their attitude.

They also do pop-up classes in Sri Lanka, Banda Aceh in Indonesia and the Andaman Islands.

If this sounds right up your street, visit their website here.

Ever wanted to go hiking through Yosemite National Park and practice yoga at the same time?

Back To Earth run some amazing yoga/hiking retreats ranging from four to eight days, depending on where you pick.

Hike to base camp in the middle of a forest, enjoy as many yoga sessions as you like, go swimming in the lakes and spend the evening around the campfire, before starting all over again.

How great does that sound? Find out more here.

Tulum SUP Yoga

Head to Mexico for a week for sunshine, blue skies and yoga on a stand-up paddleboard. Yep, really.

Yoga Adventures Tulum put together week-long SUP yoga retreats in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a UNESCO Heritage Site that doubles up as your private lagoon.

SUP yoga isn't as hard as it sounds. In fact, it adds an extra balance element that forces you to use those core muscles your yoga instructor is always talking about. Plus the lapping water will help you drift off easily into savasana.

Head back to your rustic Carribbean guesthouse afterwards for a well-deserved swim. Take a look at their website here.

Blue Spirit Costa Rica

If you've got the cash, then head over to the Blue Spirit resort in Costa Rica.

It's one of the most well-known yoga and meditation retreats in the world. They have a huge glass window yoga studio overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Relax in the salt water infinity pool overlooking the white sandy beach, which also doubles up as a turtle refuge.

They have different instructors with varying course every week - from surf yoga to mindful meditation to female-only.

Oh, and wait until you check out the bedrooms. Then you'll be sold. See more on their website here.

Scuba Diving Yoga

We're a big fan of Adventure Yogi, a yoga holiday company specifically aimed at adventurous people.

Their diving yoga holidays in Tobago and Egypt sound amazing - and actually go together better than you might think. After all, diving is about controlling your breath just as it is in yoga.

Start the day with a morning yoga session on the beach, followed by a tropical dive, lunch and then another evening yoga class.

Sounds pretty dreamy, no? Check out their website here.

Cowgirls Yoga

Fancy combining a week's yoga sessions with cowgirl horseriding in Montana, USA? Look no further than Big Sky Yoga Retreats.

If you love practicing your asanas and horses, then you need to book yourself onto one of their Luxe Cowgirl retreats.

Sleep in a traditional log cabin before practicing yoga in view of Montana's famous mountains and then saddling up for an afternoon riding.

Surfdoards On The Beach

If you're looking for a surf and yoga retreat with some really tasty (but healthy) meals then look no further than Bespoke Retreats.

They run bespoke yoga and surf retreats in both Cornwall and Portugal. However, the best bit about it is the delicious meals provided by their in-house nutritionist.

They'll even put together a nutrition plan for beginners, so you can take your newly honed healthy eating habits home with you.

That's not to say they don't encourage relaxing with a drink or two after a hard day in the water either.

There's even talk of a mountain snow retreat coming in 2016. Check out their current retreats by clicking here.

Snow Goddess Yoga

Every skier or snowboarder's dreams of one day riding in Japan.

With Snow Goddess Retreats, you can combine metres of fresh powder with sushi and post-shred yoga classes. It doesn't get much better than that.

These all-female retreats are based in the powder mecca of Hakuba, Japan. You'll get to shred with like-minded women before relaxing in the onsen (a Japanese mineral spring hot bath) at the end of the day, followed by traditional meals prepared by the in-house chef.

There are three yoga sessions lined up to stretch out those aching muscles, but the organisers are pretty flexible so there might be the chance to sign up for more.
