We’re a little old to have ever played with Bratz dolls when we were kids, but we definitely remember when they came out and thinking that they looked…a little odd.

The amount of make up they wore always looked a little aggressive, scary and pretty adult.

When the dolls are incredibly made up, they look like they’re doing it for someone else

Tasmanian artist Sonia Singh has been giving the Bratz girls a different kind of transformation recently.

She’s been taking off the make up – and as it turns out, they’re just normal looking girls under those painted lashes and lips.

We think this idea is a really inspired way of showing little girls that they wearing lots of make up isn’t something they have to aspire towards.

“When the dolls are incredibly made up, they look like they’re doing it for someone else,” says Sonia. “My dolls look they’re doing it for themselves.”

“I’m not a doll manufacturer. I don’t want to be, but if what I’ve done does influence some of the big toy manufacturers, then that’s a good thing.”

“It really shows what these dolls are, what they could be and the fact that it’s a choice by the manufacturer.”

Let’s hope that toy makers are listening and having a re-think of what message they are giving girls through their products.
