Has she seen the movie?

Yeah I’d watched it a bunch beforehand.

I put the movie on and the whole thing is obviously a little bit long for her, but she watched her segment.

For me, that part… I can barely watch it. so it was really hard for me as you want to be a strong mother and you don’t want to see your parents cry.

To see her face and see how much her dad cared about her, not many kids who have lost their dad get to have that…

So I said to her, “Ayla, Mummy’s going to cry when I watch this with you.” She has so much empathy, she’s the most beautiful child (of course, I say that because she’s my kid ha ha) but she has got this crazy empathy, so she didn’t know what to do.

Watching her watch the movie, to see her face and see how much her dad cared about her, not many kids who have lost their dad get to have that.

Looking back, do you wish he hadn’t been a BASE jumper? I mean I guess it obviously wasn’t worth it for him to be the person he wanted to be…

Not at all. He would say that too. No way, but you can’t predict life. I mean I’m not going to be a BASE jumper.

How would you feel if your daughter wanted to be?

I’m not going to stop her doing the things she wants to do. If she wants to BASE jump, ugh I really don’t want her to, but if I say no, she’s going to want to do it.

I want her to live how she wants to live but obviously I’m going to show her the best way I can to make her use her opportunities.

Does she seem like she’d be drawn to it?

I don’t think so. She’s super into dance and hip hop and she’s a really good soccer player.

She’s definitely got that athletic ability but she’s not a crazy good skier. She doesn’t have balls, thank god she has a vagina haha but we’ll see.

Tell us about how you and Shane met?

Somebody pointed him out in a bar. I’m a snowboarder and he’s a skier. Back then, skiers weren’t so cool and snowboarders were cool. You know how it was ’98.

I was like, “Oh he’s cute!” I had this crazy “woah!” feeling and then a couple of years later, we’d see each other and be like, “Hi” “Hi” all shy.

I was like, “I thought you were so hot” and he was like, “I thought you were so hot”. Then suddenly he started coming mountain biking with a friend and I all the time. We eventually hooked up a few months after that.

Did you reconcile the rider/skier thing and hit the mountain together a lot?

Well, on powder days you don’t go with a spouse at all, do you? That’s just how it is.

I’d go with him and he’d want to huck cliffs and it was super fun, but I actually think we mountain biked more together.

We were both athletic together which was really important to us both. We’d also climb a lot.
