Since travelling is the ‘balm of life’ as a former colleague recently said, we’re expanding our city guide features with the cute little ‘my town’ regular from the print mag’s travel pages, where we ask people to show us their favourite spots of their home towns.
First up a classic from back in the days…
Tegan, of Tegan and Sara fame, kindly lists her favourite places in her hometown Vancouver:
1. Slickity Jims
3475 Main Street
Great little breakfast/lunch place at Main And Broadway.
Cool décor, amazing food and lots of vegetarian fare.
2. El Kartel
Burrard and Robson
The coolest clothing store in Vancouver by a million miles. It’s owned by a gaggle of Mexican guys who are the authorities on cool clothes in Vancouver. They carry loads of local designs and also have a live DJ on-site spinning, and art shows every month.
3. Commodore Lanes
838 Granville Street
The oldest bowling alley in Western Canada, with original decor from the 50s, a pool hall and games room- and it’s five pin!
4. The Cascade Room
10th and Broadway
Great food, and amazing old school martini menu.
5. Stanley Park
The biggest, coolest, oldest, most amazing park in Vancouver. It’s so big you could get lost in it. It’s full of old redwood trees and amazing trails, with downtown Vancouver on one side and the ocean on the other.
