Is Meghan Rutledge the future of women’s motocross?

And why Aussie surfer Layne Beachley is her hero

Motocross is a pretty brutal sport, your posts on Instagram are a complete contrast to when we see you out on track. What do you think about Instagram and the criticism some female athletes have received for posting “sexier” images?

I think it’s silly. Any athlete should be able to show both sides of who they are. Just because I ride motocross doesn’t mean I can’t be girly, I love to dress up and look good.

When you’re not riding you can mostly be found doing……

There isn’t much time to relax with my schedule but to unwind I love to spend time with my two year old niece although it isn’t that relaxing, it’s great fun. I also enjoy water sports in summer and snowboarding in winter.

What would you like to see happen to women’s motocross in the future?

I think that women’s motocross needs to start encouraging girls from a younger age. These girls need to have something to look forward to and a series to follow from the very start of their careers. And definitely keep the women’s events running with men’s.
