The former Zimtstern marketing manager Barbara Mayer gives us the lowdown on what’s going on in Switzerland’s boardsports capital Zurich
Langstrasse & Hardbrücke quarter
From cosy little cafés to pretty shops, galleries, cool bars and clubs, there’s always something happening here. Maybe someone will take you to a new pop-up club or secret party, otherwise try Gonzo or Zukunft on Langstrasse or head to Hardbrücke and give Helsinkiklub or Exil a try.
Xenix
The cinema/bar/cafe Xenix hosted by the Filmclub Zürich is great for sitting outside. On Saturdays you’re in the middle of the flea market and can watch people bargain while you’re sipping your coffee in the sun.
Bellevue Square
Bellevue square is at the lakeside. Bring some food and drink or buy them at one of the takeaways there, sit down, watch the swans and seagulls, listen to the street musicians and watch people walking by.
Zurich Flea markets & markets
There are nice flea markets in Zurich every Saturday on Helvetiaplatz, Frau Gerolds Garten (both cheap), and Bürkliplatz (more expensive). In summer you shouldn’t miss the Montagsmarkt in Rimini, a little open air market in a bathhouse. In winter I recommend the Christmas market at Plaza, where you can buy great presents by young designers.
