It’s Official – Serena Williams Definitely Won The Australian Open While Pregnant

This is so badass.

Serena Williams has confirmed that she is 20 weeks pregnant with her first child.

The tennis player shared the news via Snapchat, posting a photo of herself in a swimsuit with a large baby bump with the caption ’20 weeks’, before a statement from her management confirmed the amazing news shortly after.

“I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall,” a spokesperson for the 35-year-old told the Guardian.

While we’re stoked for Serena and her fiancé Alexis Ohanian on their big news, we’re also pretty excited for what this announcement tells us about her most recent title.

Serena’s 20 month announcement means that she not only did she champion at the Australian Open in January, capturing her 23rd major singles title, without dropping a single set – she also did it while pregnant.

If there was still any doubt about the name of the greatest living tennis player, we think it’s just been cleared. As many tournaments as Federer and Nadal have won, we’ve yet to see them do it with a nine week old human growing inside them.

Williams hasn’t played a competitive match since she won the title. The fact she pulled out of Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid, citing knee trouble, now makes a whole lot more sense.

We’re sending a huge congratulations to Serena, along with a high five for everything she does for all women in sport.
