Resort Round-Up

It’s all change in ski resorts this season. Here’s our round-up of some of the biggest news.

St Anton in Austria is replacing its Valfagehrbahn triple chair with a state of the art six-seater high-speed chair, complete with pull down weather-protection bubble covers and the novelty of heated seats.

• Arc 1950 Le Village in the French Alps is expanding fast, with two new appartment blocks, a deluxe spa, a clutch of new restaurants, snack bars, creperies, fashion shops and a new medical centre. Phew!

Breckenridge is building a new Peak 8 summit high-speed quad, which will be the highest chairlift in North America (reaching 12,840ft). It will serve 400 acres of double-black terrain, previously only accessible with a 45 minute hike.

• A Bulgarian firm is spending 32 million euros on building a new 24-hectare, 16 lift, ski resort near Smolyan.
