Pro Chat: Ane Enderud

On the verge of her trip to Alaska, we caught up with one of the gnarliest skiers that exist out there, Norwegian dare-devil Ane Enderud.

Hey Ane, long time no speak – how was your season?
I was based in Chamonix and just tried to get as much filming and shooting done I can after some years with loads of traveling. But I’m also heading off to Alaska for my first time! I’m really exited to see what that place is all about, I’ve heard and seen so much from there. And it’s supposed to have a lot of snow still. And I’ve got another trip to Svalbard coming as well, before

That sounds cool! Where is Svalbard?
Svalbard is an archipelago in the Arctic, constituting the northernmost part of Norway. It is located north of mainland Europe, midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. The group of islands range from 74° to 81° north latitude (inside the Arctic Circle), and from 10° to 35° east longitude. I’m going with my team mate Lucas Swieykowski, and hopefully Matt Herriger.

I noticed you’re not on the Freeride World Tour anymore, how come?
Mainly because there is so much I want to do! There are so many places I’d like to ski, I want to have more time again to ski my favorite place Chamonix, but also explore new places and hopefully create some good girl action and travel stories from the places I find inspiring and exotic. Another reason is that my goal was to win, and I did that both times I did the tour, so I didn’t have the same motivation anymore to spend all my time and focus on that. But I had a great time the first year on the tour and I am really happy I did it. I like the way I pushed myself and managed to get my potential out in competitions, it was a good feeling after many years of training and riding a lot in Chamonix

There was also quite some discussion going on about girls’ prize money on the FWT last year. Were you involved in that in some way?
I was involved in the beginning because I was a part of the FWT board, but it didn’t help at the time. At least the girls are back on most of the same events as the guys this year, so that’s good. But apart from that I was already considering to stop because I had quite a hard time with injuries etc, but would most likely have done one more year if it hadn’t been for all that chaos and the feeling of less priority and exposure for the girls.

Instead you just launched your very own webseries…
Yes! It’s called “A Way Of Life” and will give you an insight on what I have done this winter so far, continuing following me and capture how I will come out with my own movie in the end…

So after a season of filming and two on the FWT, can you say what you prefer?
I prefer filming at this point and I still have so much to learn in the mountains! And also how to plan and produce filming, as long as I challenge myself on skis and also learning new things in life I’m happy

Do you see a difference in riding level between snowboarder girls and skier girls?
Yes, there is a bit of a gap I would say. At least there was when I was on the tour, I think the general level of the skiers was higher, they were riding faster, jumping higher, and less crashing. But I didn’t see anything live last year so don’t want to comment too much without following properly.

Are you going to go back to the FWT next year?
I don’t know, right now I work hard to make good movie projects and that’s also a way to go for a girl, a lot to learn and also to finance it. I’m trying to do it my way and sometimes that’s more work..

Grete Eliassen did her own movie too…
Yeah, she was freeriding with me in Norway last year, back to our roots. There’s also gonna be an episode on that out soon! I invited Grete and Karina to join, “Norwegians checking out our own country”, hehe. Norway is the most beautiful place I have been!

What’s better?
The fjords, mountains, small local fishing communities, some of them live in the most craziest places. So exposed and in one with the nature. You will see soon…

Anything else you wanna get off your chest?
Stay true, take care of our playground, follow your hart and enjoy life! Haha cheesy! But true.
