A couple of days ago, Glamour magazine published an article online titled ’13 Little Things That Can Make a Man Fall Hard For You’.
This kind of headline, while making us roll our eyes and sigh, won’t shock most people who’ve grown up surrounded by women’s magazines.
The Broke Girls’ Guide To Weekend Adventures
The article did shock the a lot of the internet however, through some pretty misogynistic tips.
Handing your man a cold beer when he steps out the shower, answering the door to him naked and helping his ego by letting him sort out your ‘petty work problem’?
Come on now Glamour, seriously?
While this article points out everything wrong with sexism in the media, the reaction everyone had to it has actually got us feeling pretty good over here in Cooler HQ.
Lots of news outlets have tried to make it look like there was an angry outcry over the piece, but in reality, we all just had a good laugh at it.
Everyone just laughed and the magazine looked like idiots.
There were a load of hilarious articles and blogs written about it, such as this one in Vice.
Both men and women together cringed a little and had a good old chuckle about how ridiculous it is that at one time that would have been taken seriously.
The wonderful feminism in this story is that not only are we at a point where this rubbish is being called out, we can all point fingers and belly laugh in its face.
Through the power of the internet and a successful feminist movement in the media over the last few years, this article didn’t get shrugged off as the kind sexist bullshit that women’s mags have always published.
No one had to get angry, no one had to march
Everyone just laughed, and the magazine looked like idiots. No one had to get angry. No one had to march. Everyone just scoffed at them and it went away.
Now it’s been taken down, an apology has been issued and I bet the whole magazine is looking at their keyboards and feeling a little foolish.
We think that looks a little bit like progress…
