This Women’s Football Team Have Taken The Names Off Their Shirts For One Seriously Inspirational Reason…

Sweden's team are reminding young women everywhere that it is possible to succeed

Over in the world of football, something seriously rad is happening.

The Sweden women’s team has decided to drop the names off the back of their jersey and replace them with messages that are a little bit different.

Instead of names, the jersey now have messages “inspire and motivate women to show that everything is possible”.

The Swedish Football Association, who launched the idea, asked the players to pick tweets from prominent Swedish women to be written on the shirts.

Among the messages, the players chose quotes from other sportswomen, politicians and well known women from every industry.

Captain, Lotta Schelin chose a message from the Swedish politician Gudrun Schyman that says “never look down on someone unless it is to help her up.”

We love that women at the top of their game are using their voice to help other women and spread love and inspiration around  the world.

“The initiative is first and foremost to, with the help of the national team, highlight the power that comes with doing things together and the women’s team’s success is a good example of that.” says Niklas Bodell, the communications director at the Swedish FA.

“We also hope that it can inspire people to stand up for each other, notwithstanding who you are or where you come from.”
