The Air & Style Munich 2008, originally scheduled to take place on the 29th November in the Olympic Stadium Munich, will not be taking place.
The decision was made by the organizers of the event, the Air & Style Company, who, due to the last minute cancellation of one sponsor and the current difficult economic situation, cannot guarantee enough funds to maintain the high standards of the event. This means that one of Europe’s most important action sports events could not be spared from this year’s credit crunch in Germany.
However, the Billabong Air & Style 2009 on January 31st next year is still set to go ahead in the Bergisel Stadium, Innsbruck. Sponsorships for this event are almost sold out meaning that the event will definitely take place as planned.
Andrew Hourmont, founder and organizer of the Air & Style, said: “We are very sad about the cancellation of the Air & Style Munich 08. We feel sorry for the fans, the riders and for our whole team. After we have seen the best ever Air & Style last year, the anticipation was huge for this year’s event to become even better. But as a company we first and foremost have to finance this expensive happening which is impossible without financial support from sponsors. After a surprising last-minute cancellation from a sponsor, we did not have enough time to find new ways of raising the sponsorship money. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the Air & Style Munich 2008. We are now focusing on organising the January event in the Bergisel Stadium in Innsbruck and will take care of new, international projects.”
