Bethany Hamilton’s kickstarter movie Surf Like a Girl reaches target

Soul Surfer Bethany Hamilton, still at her own admission best known for losing an arm in a shark attack 10 years ago, which was witnessed by her best friend Alana Blanchard, has a new kickstarter-funded movie project Surf Like a Girl in the offing.

The project is being driven by filmmaker Aaron Lieber, the guy behind Lakey Peterson’s Zero to 100 movie, which blew up on iTunes last year, and as with Lakey’s film, Surf Like a Girl will be funded by Kickstarter. In fact they’ve already passed their $60,000 target, though the more they raise the radder the film, so it goes.

We love the title, as it reminds us of the Like a Girl campaign by Always earlier this year, which you can read about here.

We also love the trailer, which you can see at the top, for its striking insight into how many times a day Bethany Hamilton must get asked if she needs a hand, when quite clearly given the size of waves she bosses on an almost daily basis amongst other reason, she’s quite clearly GOT IT.

The film is due out in 2015 in two parts, a high performance surf sports section at the start of the movie filmed in Tahiti, Maldives, Hawaii and Indo, and a documentary part, promising much untold story, at the back end of the year. We’re stoked for both.

And you should also WATCH THIS Bethany video where she explains how she surfs with one arm with an inspiring amount of patience.
