It’s another lay day for the Billabong Girls Pro Rio contest as the small 1-2 foot surf and onshore winds have forced event organizers to call off competition for another day.
Event number 4 of 8 on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Billabong Gils Pro Rio has been running at Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro until now, but the recent conditions have encouraged event organizers and competitors to scout peaks at the nearby Macumba beach.
“We woke to two-foot conditions this morning,” said Brooke Farris, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager. “With a swell increase filling in throughout the day, we will be back to reassess conditions tomorrow and are confident of more contestable waves being on offer either at Barra da Tijuca or nearby Macumba.”
