Carissa Moore wins Vans US Open of Surfing 2013 in “one of the most dramatic finals in US Open history”

The Vans US Open of Surfing 2013 Final has just gone down and Carissa Moore has won. By a point. In what one of the commentators called “one of the most dramatic finals in US Open history.” The Hawaiian surfer and 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour Champion Carissa Moore took an early lead but local ripper Courtney Conlogue, who’s been on fire all week, kept on fighting and scored an awesome late left hander through the pier. The crowd held their breath hoping their home girl was going to do it but the event title went to Carissa Moore. With two events to go, she’ll now leapfrog Tyler Wright to first in the rankings, with Courtney Conlogue cruising above Sally Fitzgibbons into third, giving the ASP Women’s World Title 2013 a very interesting run-in with two events to go. Next up is the rescheduled Roxy Pro in September.

After her heat Carissa Moore said:

To be honest I’m a little shocked right now because I thought Courtney (Conlogue) won when the crowd erupted on that last wave. I let her go and I had priority and it was a bad decision, but I’m stoked that it worked out in my favour. I was happy to be in the final and Courtney’s in the title race and I had fun, but I was definitely nervous at the end of that heat. It’s such an honour to win this event in front of this big crowd. I feel amazing!

It was definitely an amazing heat and Carissa (Moore), she’s been surfing really well. With everyone screaming and the crowd on the pier I was definitely wanting to win. I was trying to be progressive and surfing the best that I could. It feels really good to get second and I’m looking forward to going back to Europe. Going to Hossegor [for the rescheduled Roxy Pro] is going to be exciting so it’s nice to get a result here and I’m looking forward to it.

Seems as good a time as any to watch this super cute vid of Carissa Moore ripping as a kid again.
