Through the successful sale of the Design For Humanity special edition products, Billabong Girl reached another big step in raising money to support SurfAid’s humanitarian efforts in Indonesia.
The ‘Design For Humanity’ bag and tee, as well as three limited-edition artist t-shirts, have been available since February 2008 in Billabong stores and major retailers throughout Europe, and have been flying off the shelves.
The campaign also included the first European ‘Design For Humanity’ event in Paris and the ‘Design For Humanity’ Art Competition which have helped to promote awareness for the cause, while at the same time celebrating fashion, music and art.
Christelle Kipping, Girls Marketing Manager, says: “We are very proud to have developed this DFH project globally with success and with our combined effort to be able to help so many people in need in Indonesia. Together we have made a difference and hopefully with this money some families will be able to live better.”
The money raised will be enough to fund a year of SurfAid’s community-based health programs in six communities in the Mentawai Islands. These efforts alone will help more than 4,000 residents live healthier lives and raise healthy children in the face of endemic malaria, malnutrition, and other dangerous yet preventable diseases.
