For the first time you can this year combine your love for cinema and outdoor adventures at the Birmingham NEC’s British Ski and Board Show. Introduced for the very first time this year, the Winter Film Festival will showcase some of the finest adventure-packed movies from around the globe. You’ll even receive a complimentary serving of popcorn courtesy of IMAX Cinema at Millennium Point, Birmingham!

First to hit the big screen is Australis: An Artic Ski Odyssey, a film shot in the Antartic Peninsula when a small team discover the beauty of ski mountaineering. Lead by Chris Davenport the team fulfil their dreams by exploring more than just the ‘tip of the iceberg’. As they search for virgin territory to find the ultimate ski line they take on mountains, glaciers and icy seawaters to be rewarded with couloirs, natural ski ramps and 45-degree descents. With sightings of an Orca, penguins, seals, albatross, dolphins and petrels the film is a true mission of discovery filmed in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.
If you prefer your adrenalin rush to come in the form of two wheels then why not check out Follow Me, a film dedicated to the life of mountain biking. The film features downhillers, freeriders and slopestylers all sending the message that ‘no one rides alone’. It focuses more about riding with friends, pushing the limits and most importantly having fun. Learn anything from the basics through to riding bike trails, parks, road trips and heli drops with a host of riders just willing you to get off the couch and get on your bike.
Go a breathtaking journey in California with Alex Honnold as he is taking the high-stakes sport of free solo climbing to new heights. Climbing truly massive walls without a rope, and zero chance of survival if he falls, Alex is calm and fearless. But attempting the 2,000-foot wall of Half Dome, El Captain the greatest free solo ever attempted, finally teaches Alex the meaning of fear. This award-winning short film Alone On The Wall, is just one in a series entitled First Ascent putting you at the forefront of groundbreaking adventure.
Be prepared to hold your breath and take to the water with Dream Result. This film is an expression of the essence of white water kayaking through the story of a group of friends who have undertaken a journey to explore the limits of possibility. The film includes the World Record Waterfall Descent of the 186ft tall Palouse Falls, expeditions into the wilderness of Northern Canada, jaw-dropping freestyle on flooded rivers of Quebec and a quest for waterfalls though out Chile and Scandinavia. Driven through the passions of seven of the sports top athletes and lifelong colleagues, they experience a year in the life of chasing their Dream Result.
The British Ski and Board Show is open from 12noon until 8pm on Friday and 10am until 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
