The weekend of the 7th & 8th July saw over 105 beginners and intermediate female surfers have fun in the sun at the first ever Billabong Girls Days at Woolacombe beach, Devon.
The Billabong Girls Days tour bus rolled into town on Friday night with pro riders Ashleigh Mannix and Ashley Cheadle fresh from the European leg of the Girls Days tour.
The surfing lifestyle weekend kicked off under blue skies at the Billabong Bali style camp on the headland above Woolacombe beach with a yoga lesson to warm everyone up before the first surf of the weekend.
Then it was time to get on your wetsuit and Billabong Girls Day rash vest and hit the beach with Pro rider Ashley Cheadle and some of the UK’s best surf instructors! Beginners and intermediate female surfers had two high octane hours in the perfect 2-3ft swell.
Lounging under pink sunshades at lunch, the girls were then treated to an eco talk from Surfers Against Sewage on why and how to keep the ocean and beach environment clean. Then it was back to the surf to perfect those pop-ups and cut backs!
Post surf activities saw the girls busting moves at the hip-hop dance class and modelling in the exclusive Summer 08 collection preview fashion show.
The highlight of the evening was a very special guest performance by team rider and musician Ashleigh Mannix whose soulful acoustic set had the girls swaying in the mellow evening sun at the ‘White Party’.
Day two started with yoga and another surfing lesson, the last chance of the weekend to hone those new found skills. After lunch Billabong Pro rider, actress and model Ashley Cheadle and Ashleigh Mannix announced the ‘Love Your World’ surf art competition where the girls were given an opportunity, in groups, to show their creative talents by creating a ‘Love Your World’ canvas.
By the end of the weekend many waves had been caught, friends had been made and 105 girls had been well and truly bitten by the surfing bug.
