The Nike+ Supersonic final took place on Sunday in London. We caught up with one of the super-speedy finalists…
Jessica, 25, lives in London and works for Whizz-Kid, a children’s mobility charity which provides equipment and long term support for disabled children. She set herself a challenge to make it to the Nike+ Supersonic Final – a 1k race at Battersea Park followed by an exclusive concert headlined by Dizzee Rascal and The Enemy. To become a finalist, Jessica had to test herself over 100m and her speed secured her place as one of London’s 1,000 fastest runners. Last Saturday, Jessica competed in the grand finale over a 1k floodlit course….
“The atmosphere at the Nike+ Supersonic final was amazing, really exciting and energetic; holding the athletes outside the main arena whilst the crowds built inside listening to the DJs created a real buzz. Filming the runners and show images from the race course on plasma screens for the audience was really unique and gave the spectators a great feel for how the race was going on outside – my friends loved it.
“I completed the course in 4.00.60, placing me 60th which I was pretty pleased with for a long distance runner! The race rewards for all runners were excellent, although the winners prizes were what got everyone talking – tickets to any sporting event, anywhere in the world! Everyone was talking about what they might have chosen as they’d won. It was really inspiring to see that the girl who won doesn’t race but just runs to work every day – just goes to show what you can achieve.
“After the race I was able to enjoy the gig with my friends which was a really great way to end the evening – I’d definitely take part again as it feels so different to a normal running event. It was great to see such a different running crowd enjoying the mix of music and racing.”
