The Our Camp and Two Seasons Tamworth girls coaching night in association with etnies kicked off big style on 17th November. Gilly Seagrave fills us in on the happenings…
Wow!!! We expected large numbers but couldn’t believe the amount of OC comrades that turned up for our pre-winter warm-up clinic at the Tamworth SnowDome, it was great to see you all there and brilliant to see so many new faces as well as the regulars, thanks goes out again to Alena who came all the way from Germany to keep up her record as camp mascot!
With the new partner sponsors Two Seasons shops and Etnies Girl it went down in history as one of the best OC nights so far. Everyone left with a smile on their face and bags of bounty.
We introduced the OC comrades to the best girls on snow right now; their coaches, DC and Capita rider Laura Hill, Burton’s British Champ Posy Dixon , our original all-star Forum and Special Blend rider Jo Chastney and myself, Animal rider and 1/3 Our Camp founder Sonia Shaw.
Each girl arrived nice and early for the session and quickly got ready for the exclusive ‘etnies girl warm up session’. The normal hours of the freestyle night are from 10pm to 1.30am but with the support of Andy (thanks for shaping!) and the SnowDome we opened up the Academy area with a flat down rail and a double bar rail at 8pm. We devised this concept, with the help of etnies girl, for the ladies who felt they needed a little bit of confidence building before the ramp night. It was in a secret location in the Snowdome away from the main slope.
After the warm up session we all hit the Our Camp area to get our goody bags and to introduce the girls to their personal masseurs for the evening kindly provided by the Absolutely Flab-U-Less beauty salon located right in the SnowDome. There were two ladies on hand, one doing sports massage and the other Hot Stone therapy – we don’t neglect the importance of pampering and maintenance at Our Camp!
This went on as the girls went through their goody bags containing Snowboard UKs, Cooler magazines, etnies wallets, etnies posters, some UV sun block, lanyards, chapsticks and more Animal goodies… enough pressies to kit everyone out for the beginning of winter.
The slope opened and we couldn’t get on the snow fast enough. The SnowDome had worked hard and gave us a great set up of obstacles on which to hone our skills. As always, the girls and the OC coaches took over. What we couldn’t believe was the enthusiasm of the regular ramp night riders. This wasn’t anything to do with the influx of girls but more to do with their riding. They were stoked we were on the snow and said we should be there all the time – I think it made them ride/show off (he he!) a little better!
Every girl tried something new and rode away with a least one new trick under their helmet, even the ones who said they weren’t good enough! That’s the last time we at OC headquarters want to hear that! You proved yourselves wrong.
So much so that in the break we had planned to give out only one spot prize to one camper in each group, but the decision was too much as everyone had learnt or done something that had impressed the coaches so… EVERYONE got a prize, Animal baseball caps and wallets, and never ending goodies from Helen at Two Seasons!
Santa’s generosity didn’t end there. We raffled off more bits and the two rookies, Kate and Nathalie walked away with a jacket and trousers! AH!! Hold the excitement!!!
The night ended with more snow time and OC coaching until 1.30am! Paul Gordon OC photographer for the night drove up from Portsmouth and took lots of shots of everyone. He summed the night up by saying he’d “never seen a group of people having so much fun and really getting tricks under their belt before.”
Everyone felt the enthusiasm and no one was ready to finish the night off- it felt too early and we all still had more tricks to build on.
Well ladies we’ll just have to wait until the 8th of December when OC in association with Two Season and etnies girl are going to swarm the slope once again. Who’s in?
