Saturday 19th saw the last instalment to The Ladies Skateboard Series – ‘Peaches and Cream’ . The guys at Transition Extreme had been super generous and handed over sole usage of the park to the ladies for the day. In all there were 20 girls in attendance (plus spectators) including Lovenskate’s Lucy Adams, Rogue’s Emily Russell and Helena Long, Lois Pendlebury, Danni Mellor, Emma Richardson, Julia Brueckler who’d made the trip over from Austria and of course the Scottish Clan which included Lauren Kate MacCallum, Heather Cheyne and Natalie Edgar.
After a couple of hours jamming, the comp kicked off. Qualifiers lasted 6 minutes per group and had 3 riders in each. Julia had a massive array of tricks and impressed everyone with her mega pop! She landed, amongst others backside flips and solid nollie big spins and tre flips out of the bank. Helena attacked the hip with a tre and her trademark nollie inward heel whilst Lois flowed effortlessly around the park with lip life reverts.
Six riders in all progressed to the finals Lois, Helena, Emily, Emma, Lucy and Julia who were all put into 3 groups of two respectively. The final was broken down into 2 runs of three minutes each. As in her qualifier run, Julia basically killed it! Landing a 50.50 on the wedge block, a nollie bigspin and a backside flip over the hip – again just to name a few of her tricks. However Lucy who was competing in the same group also produced an airtight run with an airwalk, a mayday on the quatre, a front board on the rail, a fs flip out of the bank, and a fakie frontside flip over the hip. Emily did smooth bs and fs tailslides reverts on quarter and Emma feebled, fs tailed and bs 5.0’d the block. Helena produced possibly the award winning combo trick of the day with a 50.50 transfer along the block coming out back smith into the whippy quarter – that girl can always be counted on!

The day was rounded off by a screen printing workshop run by Helen Lovelee. She’d made up loads of stencils prior to the event for peeps to print their tees (supplied by Roxy) or their own hats. Emma Richardson: ‘The guys rocked the caps they’d stenciled in Helen’s workshop, they were loving it at the pub afterwards, which was sick!’
Lois Pendlebury organiser of the series: The group of girls that skate TX on Monday nights were all stoked for the event. The contests overall have been a great success and keep everyone in touch. The one thing I thought might have happened a little more was to bring some new faces on to the scene. There are girls out there who are ripping but either haven’t been able to make the events or aren’t too into the idea of competing. Thoughts for next time then? When new peeps do join in, everyone gets stoked! So get involved – even if you just come along to check out what’s going on, there is always a great attmosphere to appreciate!
A big thanks has to go out to the Transition Extreme Staff, not only for handing over the park for the day but for also judging the comp – Cheers guys!
