What: Roxy Pro Hawaii, ASP Women’s World Tour Event #7
Where: Sunset Beach Hawaii
When: 23 November – 6 December 2007
As the longest running professional women’s surfing event in Hawaii, the Roxy Pro Hawaii will again return to Sunset Beach this November to test the women’s big wave skills. With the prize purse raised to $80,000 this year and a Schick Quattro for Women Style Award of $3,000, a lot is on the line at Sunset Beach for these ladies.
The event has a holding period of November 25th – December 6th and takes place when the waves are best during that time. It is the second women’s stop on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, and a key event in the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour, sometimes deciding the World Champion. Log on each day during the holding period to see if the contest is in action and follow the action live.
Watch out for Sofia Mulanovich – the defending Vans Triple Crown of Surfing champion, who has a good shot at a second ASP world title, which will be decided during the Triple Crown. And Roxy Pro Hawaii Wild Cards, including Melanie Bartels, will be sure to give Mulanovich a run for her money.
Among those battling it out for the wildcard spot this year will be a charged-up pack of young, talented surfer girls – all of them still in school (Carissa Moore, Bethany Hamilton, Alize Arnaud, Sally Fitzgibbons, Lee Ann Curren, Alisha Gonsalves and Coco Ho).
To ride Sunset well doesn’t only demand solid surfing; it’s about performing well under pressure, having the determination to master such a difficult and intimidating wave, and having guts to give it all you’ve got when both career and life are on the line.
