Former Cooler cover star Sally Fitzgibbons, who talks about why she loves surfing in the current issue, was first out of the blocks at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach posting 18.84 out of 20, the highest heat score in the clean 3-4 foot waves in Round 1. She also landed the highest wave score with 9.57 out of 10 at this second ASP Women’s World Tour event of 2012.
Sally, currently lying in third overall on the tour, said, “I am very happy with that heat as everything went my way. I was able to pick off two really good waves that linked all the way through the Bowl. Coco (Ho) was ripping and probably would have won a lot of heats today so it was great to be able to come from behind and post two solid scores. My equipment feels good and I’m just excited to be back in Bells. Walking down the steps and seeing my photo as one of the past winners gave me a lot of confidence today. Bells will always be a special place for me as it’s where I got my first World Tour victory last year. The swell looks to be solid all week so everyone is excited.”
The rest of the results from Round 2 read as follows, including current Cooler cover star Laura Enever winning her heat too.
