The Quiksilver Pro Show Music & Surf Event

While the worlds top 44 surfers battle it out in the first event of the year on the Fosters ASP Mens World Tour, the companion music event The Pro Show is set to create it’s own waves, bringing you an action-packed day of surf tunes on the sand at one of the Australia’s most consistent beach breaks.

Riding the swell with the Quiksilver Pro presented by Samsung, The Pro Show is stoked to present the final acts to be added to the all day surf culture extravaganza at Duranbah Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Topping the list on the final announcement is UK folk blues singer-songwriter Pete Molinari.

Invoking the sounds of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Nick Drake, and fast becoming known as a modern day troubadour, Pete will be joining the Pro Show line-up direct from a European tour with Holly Golightly and hot on the heels of the Australian release of his debut longplayer, Walking Off The Map.

The Pro Show is also very excited to offer a series of surf films on the Samsung big screen, headlined with the big wave epic Red Bull Tai Fu, starring fearless big wave chargers Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones taking on the typhoon swells of Japan.

Also screening is a yearly wrap of surf film projects from the legendary Tim Bonython as well as a preview of his upcoming feature, Wild Australia, plus an exclusive 10 minute teaser of the highly anticipated action flick, The Bra Boys – a feature film that documents the exploits of Maroubra’s tight knit surfing crew. The film will host it’s full length premiere on the Gold Coast on March 9th and open in cinemas on March 15th.

Organisers of The Pro Show have also teamed up with the Gold Coast City Council’s Cultural Development Unit to add 4 local acts to the bill, as part of the A-Venue youth music initiative. These acts include high energy funksters Rubber Johnson, the rootsy blues of the Black Market Rhythm Co, the emotive and energetic Ben Whitecross Band and a taste of hip hop infused organic blues from the Grass Roots Street Orchestra.

Keeping the dance grooves swinging in the D-Bar will be some of the best known DJ’s in SE QLD including DJ Kristian Hernandez, DJ Basmati, DJ Rola D, DJ Alife, DJ Sampology and DJ Gareth, who are all set to play the latest cuts throughout the afternoon and into the night.

Acts previously announced include festival favourites The Beautiful Girls, popular 8-piece hip hop outfit The Herd, blues and roots sensation, Ash Grunwald, rising hop hop act The Winnie Coopers, reggae rocksteady rascals Rogerthat, singer-songwriter Beau Young and roots/rock collective Band Of Frequencies.

Set only 50m from the famous Gold Coast wave magnet Duranbah Beach, the Pro Show is an All Ages outdoor music festival and will also host appearances by participating Top 44 surfers from the Quiksilver Pro, exclusive Surf Films on the Samsung Big Screen, food stalls and the D-Bar with live DJ’s.
