Call us mad, but a few weeks ago we flew back from Morzine and the luxury Roxy camp early to attend the opening night of Girls, Girls, Girls – an exhibition of works by two amazing female photographers (and Cooler contributors), Valerie Phillips and Gemma Booth – and the launch of the spring/summer Roxy Heart collection in No One boutique in Shoreditch. And yes, it bloody well dumped a meter the night we left, goddam.
Anyhoo, the exhibition was rad with Valerie’s body of work entitled “You’re so sexy baby”, “Shut the fuck up” plastered all over the walls of Jaguar Shoes. She’s been photographing this girl who lives in Kentucky for years. Valerie told me the title is an exchange of words between the girl and her boyfriend. There were lots of pictures of horses as Valerie is a massive horse lover. Woman after my own heart.
Gemma’s work was framed and hung on the walls of The Old Shoreditch Fire Station, with a little film she’d done with prop-stylist (and Cooler contrib) Sarah May showing at the back. Sarah had also done the window display at No One.
We went down with Juliet Elliott, who Valerie shot for us in issue 17, and photographer Sam Hart who did some great stuff at last year’s board test for us and drunk too many exotic cocktails. Fun times.
