Helly Hansen Women’s Adventure Quest

Following the success of the December 2006 Helly Hansen Adventure Challenge (a record 200 teams made it the UK’s largest adventure race ever!) and due to the growing popularity of adventure races, organisers TrailPlus have added a fourth event to the 2007 line up. Dates for the Helly Hansen Adventure Challenge Series 2007 are 10 June, 23 September, 21 October and 2 December. Registration for the one-day races is now open, visit, or call the series booking line on 01628 820368.

New for the 2007 Helly Hansen Adventure Challenge is the Boobydoo Women’s Adventure Quest, which will be a feature at all four events in the series. It’s a race within a race for all female teams, with prizes provided by the sports bra e-tailer Boobydoo for first, second and third positions.

The four one-day races can be entered individually or as a series. Blending physical challenge and teamwork, they are designed for teams of three, where team mates must stay together throughout the race. Each adventure race features a three-way mix of trail running (10km), challenging mountain biking (25km) and canoeing on flat water in an inflatable kayak (1.5km). The fastest teams are likely to complete the course in under three hours, with most coming in within five hours and a few crossing the finish line in seven hours.

2007 dates and venues are:

Sunday 10 June: Pippingford Park, Sussex

Sunday 23 September: Cannock Chase, Staffordshire

Sunday 21 October: Longmoor Camp, Hampshire

Sunday 2 December: Hawley Lake, Camberley, Surrey

The order of activities is revealed on the day, and disciplines may be split, plus competitors will face a few testing challenges thrown in between legs. However, the route is marked, so navigation skills are not necessary.

The team entry price is £125 per event – discounts are available for clubs or organisations entering five or more teams in any one race. There will be team prizes for race winners and for pole position in the overall series.

The spirit of adventure, fun and excitement, combined with the multi-sport action makes the Helly Hansen Adventure Challenge accessible to all – attracting those new to the world of adventure and die hard adventure racers, whether male, female or mixed teams.

Helly Hansen will continue to provide competitor race bibs, made of LIFA – Helly Hansen’s performance base layer featuring its unique stay dry technology – and buoyancy aids.

Choosing the right kit to tackle the mud and sweat and facilitate performance on the trail and bike is critical. Outdoor, multi-sport performance clothing brand Helly Hansen provides all the kit needed to compete in adventure racing, from trail shoes to cycling shoes, base layers, shorts, hybrid pants and lightweight, wind and waterproof jackets.
