ISC Announces Women’s Division for 2008 Season

The ISC (Indonesian Surfing Championship) is excited to announce the addition of a Women’s Division for the 2008 season.

The first ladies event will be the Roxy Open at Keramas Beach in April during the Quiksilver Open, the second will be at Legian Beach in mid-October at the Villa Mana Charity Surf event, and the season closer will be during the Rip Curl Surf and Music Festival at Kuta Beach in late October. The rankings leader at the end of the year will receive the Women’s Championship trophy at the ISC Awards in early November.

With the rapidly growing popularity of surfing in Indonesia, more women are discovering the thrill of wave riding at Indonesia’s best beaches. On the back of the trend, Bali’s Surfer Girl surfwear company was established to exclusively provide surf and beachwear products to women, recently adding a surfing school as well. Rip Curl also holds “Girls Go Surfing” days in Indonesia several times a year, inviting women from Jakarta to give surfing a try alongside tourists and locals.
