Jenny Jones bags bronze at the Winter Olympics 2014 Sochi on an historic day for Team GB snowboarding WOOP WOOP!

JENNY JONES! Wow what a day, what a morning!

Starting with a bleary eyed alarm call to watch Jenny Jones and Aimee Fuller in the semis of the Winter Olympics 2014 slopestyle, Aimee didn’t make it finishing ninth but Jenny Jones went into the final where she stomped it scoring the bronze!

If yesterday’s men’s snowboard slopestyle final with Jamie Nicholls and Billy Morgan put slopestyle snowboarding on the map, well for mainstream UK viewers anyway, then today’s result by Jenny Jones bolded up the font, maxed up the point size and added a rad carnival soundtrack.

Not only was it the first Team GB slopestyle snowboarding medal EVER, it was the first Alpine medal of any kind EVER, that includes skiing too, take that Chemmy Alcott!

Jenny Jones put in a classy and composed performance leaning heavily on the big contest experience which has seen her win three X Games gold medals.  Her run, which included a cab 540, backside 360 and frontside 720 was smooth and solid, with none of the sit-down landing sketchiness which had plagued so many of the other riders. She scored 87.25 but then had an agonising wait to see which of the later riders would overtake her. Only two did.

Jamie Anderson took gold and Enni Rukajarvi silver, both super well deserved though not massively surprising, though we did expect Spencer O’Brien and Silje Norendal to be more in the mix. Goes without saying the top three are all former cover stars.

On a personal note, and showing our age somewhat, Jenny Jones has been a hero of ours since we first saw her in the Big Air at the Cham Jam maybe 13 years ago. She doesn’t court publicity, though we did manage to persuade her to be on our cover twice, reluctantly of course, and it’s just so cool to see her getting the widespread attention and respect she deserves. So stoked to hear her name leading each news bulletin. Go Jenny Jones!

And lest we forget she started out as a chalet girl, even having the cheesy Hollywood flick Chalet Girl based on her, expect the mainstream media to go big on this angle.
