Together with Vans, the Girlie Skatecamps pride themselves on being able to give this opportunity to all girls out there who wish to improve their skateboarding and grow their passion to be a part of this amazing culture. The first of two Summer Camps is taking place in Berlin, where not only beginners try skateboarding for the first time but also experienced girls charge their skills even higher and build new connections and friendships around the globe.
Last Sunday it was the arrival day to Berlin for all the expected skateboarders, our teamriders Sabrina “Puse” Göggel and Anna Kruse, our photographer Christoph Leib and our filmer Busty “Airwastl” Wolter. And me, Steffi Weiss, as the retired Vans Skate girl taking care of the bunch with Marina, the camp director. One rather from far away, e.g. Martina from Sweden, others from the chosen city Berlin as the local faces. After all participants have arrived in the Mellowpark, we had a nice BBQ and a short introduction about the sponsors and the upcoming week in Berlin. This summer sets its signature again with rain on time at the BBQ, but no reason to get demotivated for us! Plans were made together for the spots, which will be visited, such as the skate hall Berlin, the famous street spot at the philharomy, “Betonhausen” and maybe a wakeskatesession at the watersportscenter Grossbeeren. Besides all the sportive activities, especially the two daily skate sessions with our two pro’s Anna and Sabrina, we have planned some highlights such as a meeting with the “Görls Skateteam Berlin”, the Vans Shop and the Depot 36. Additionally other core shops like “Search & Destroy” in Berlin Kreuzberg will be on the list to fulfil- a little bit of sightseeing is mandatory!
Today we’ll have a technical lesson first: How is a board to set up? And right after lunch we’ll take off for a “Meet & Greet” with the “Görls Skate team Berlin”.
