Can you hear the ticking? Really faint but getting louder. No not your 90s Swatch the other sound. Well that would be the countdown to the fourth annual London Surf Film Festival. The dates are set for October 9-12th, and the venue is NEW!! so take note, it’s now at the Genesis, east London.
But before all that, there’s the Shorties Short Film comp presented by Reef to get going with. Entries are open, so if you’re a British or Irish and a wannabe surf filmmaker extraordinaire, get yourself involved by the end of August. 5 minutes of surf-tastic moving imagery is your max.
As Festival Director Chris Nelson says: “The Shorties is about showcasing the wealth of homegrown filmmaking talent on our shores and celebrating the art of story telling – a tradition embedded deep within surf culture.”
“You can explore any aspect or angle of surfing and surf culture through documentary, narrative, animation or anything in between. In this competition, it’s not about whether your waves are big or small, it’s about the way you chose to shoot them. Or don’t. After all there’s more than one way to tell a surf story.”
