UPDATE 2!! WATCH THE SUPER GNARLY BUT NOT REMOTELY SQUEAMISH FOOTAGE HERE

UPDATE 1!! Maya Gabiera posted the photo above of her in hospital and this message on her facebook page:

my dear friends, a broken ankle. Nothing more… Some salt water, but you know! I just need some prayer for a speedy recovery!!! Love u all… …#sometimeswegottataketherisks

Super stoked she’s ok. Here’s our post from earlier when we first heard the news:

Scary news regarding one of our all-time favourite surfers Maya Gabiera from Brazil. Surf Europe are reporting she was unconscious in the water following a massive wipeout surfing monster waves with Garret McNamara this morning at Nazare, Portugal. They’re saying she was resuscitated successfully and taken to the local hospital at Leiria. They’re also saying the big wave spot Nazare is bigger than it’s ever been, though we don’t know yet how big the wave Maya was surfing on was.

We’ll post more news when we get it but it goes without saying our thoughts are with her and her family. Get well soon Maya.

This clip from last week shows the kind of giant waves Maya Gabeira was surfing at Nazare this morning. It’s also her entry for the Billabong XXL Awards 2014. What a brave an awesome chica she is…
