My January was a mess

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

My January blog starts on the 1st or better yet on new year’s evening when Vanessa Andrieux, David Ptschi, and I decided to join Darius Heritschian in Morgins for a friend’s Raclette.

It was dumping big time that night and most of mountains pass were closed which forced us into driving all around Les Portes du Soleil in that heavy snowfall. Which took us 2 extra hours to get there. Happy to arrive there safe, we spent the night playing the “who am I” game each of us with a pink post it stuck on our foreheads. It was fun and a quiet night for us. The next morning when I opened my eyes there was no dancefloor’s regret in my thoughts when I realized that the sun was shining over fields of shiny and untracked powder! The 1st of January always is one of the best days of the season as everybody else is in big hangover pain and most don’t even make it up on the mountain!

The next day we met the kids from Geneva Fefe et Maico who had a much longer new year’s party then us for a backcountry kicker. The landing happened to be quite flat and I ended up landing in my own whole and hurt my shoulder. I needed to tae a break and I was sure I would still go up and ride if I had to stay in the mountains so I decided to drive to the ocean to forget about all that powder left in the Alps, but even there it snowed, all got covered in white and still I had to wait until end of January before I could ride again.

When I got back in the mountains, Vanessa managed to come shoot some cliffs in Avoriaz with Stefane Routin, Caroline Beliard and Gary Zebrowski.

The entire snowboard business drives to Munich in the first days of February to attend to Ispo a tradeshow where all the brands display their new products and graphics, and I went there to launch my pour model perfume Flore-ette by Les Ettes I created a scent made with monoi flower, orange tree flower and apricot and I got to admit that I love the result!

On my way back I had a hard time to find a photographer and a crew to go shoot with but lucily I got in touch with Christian Brecheis who proposed to go to Italy in the Dolomites. I was on a 9 hours drive first thing the next morning. We found amazing powder there and did get a couple pillow lines. Unfortunately the strong winds trashed it all during the night and nothing was left for us to work with. On top of that Christian had an infection in his ear and had to go back to Germany to see his doctor. So I decided to go visit my grand mother in Liechtenstein 5 hours away. On the way I got a hold on Matthieu Georges a French photographer whowas leaving to Japan the next day. He said I could come along and I did. I drove across Switzerland on that same night to catch a flight on the early next morning out of geneva to Tokyo. And here I am in Japan. I ll be here for 10 days and I ll give you news as soon as I get back..
