The surfboard of choice for the ancient Hawaiians was the beautifully simple Alaia – a thin, wooden, finless board, usually ridden around 6-7ft long. On Sunday 28th June, Loose-Fit Surf Shop in Devon is giving you the chance to shape your own piece of surfing history.
Loose-Fit will provide the fully glued and planed blanks of perfect paulownia wood, ready for you to craft in your own design. They’ll provide all the hand-tools you need and a selection of templates for inspiration. There will also be woodworking and board shaping experts on hand to guide you through the process. At the end of the day you’ll walk away with your very own, hand crafted, artisan Alaia – oiled and ready to hit the waves.
There will be a BBQ fired up on the deck all day too, so you needn’t worry about getting hungry.
