After the launch in Berlin earlier this summer, the Skateistan book The Tale of Skateboarding in Afghanistan is now published in the UK as well and to celebrate, they put together a little shinding in TCOLondon next Thursday, July 26th 2012 with founder Oliver Percovich giving some insights on the history and future of Skateistan.
What is it like to grow up working on the streets in a warzone, spending the first 15 years of your life pretending to be a boy? How does it feel to be one of the first ever skateboarders in a country, and at the same time a girl in a conservative Muslim society? In a nation divided by ethnicity and gender, how does art, education and skateboarding create change?
These and more question will be raised and hopefully to some extent answered with this beautiful book that is 100% benefitting the NGO with its profits.
