Skullcandy Sista Sessions 2010

Some of you may have already read the very enthusiastic blog of our German editor about the beginners coaching lessons at the Skullcandy Sista Sessions. But while it’s a crucial part of this event, it surely isn’t everything and so here comes the full low down.

While the coaches and beginners were busy hitting the tiny obstacles in the baby park, the rest of girls got serious on the medium line in the Vans Penken Park and threw themselves down the two sets of rails and boxes and over an 11m and a 14m kicker to qualify for a spot in the finals.

Over 30 girls from 13 different countries made the pilgrimage to Mayrhofen, to celebrate the comeback of this 3star TTR event. Especially unsponsored riders had an extra carrot dangling in front of their noses as Billabong held a one year clothing sponsorship on offer for the best girl! And so 3s and 5s were already sent flying through the park in the qualification heats, with local Tini Gruber, Scot Claire Frost and 15 years old Katarzyna Rusin from Poland
standing out the most.

While lovely Steffi from Vans was baking the signature Vans waffles to keep the hungry kids happy, the beginners were asked to a little jam session on the box next to the spectators area. While under normal circumstances most girls who literally just started to ride park, would never parade their newly acquainted skills so readily in front of an audience, the organisers of the Sista Sessions found the perfect cure: goodies!! Because if you get a little present for every attempted trick, even the shyest girl is ready to give it a try.

Urska giving her very best

After witnessing what you can learn in a morning’s time, everybody was more than ready for the real action. And the ladies brought it on big time. Although well know riders like Liza Filzmoser (AUT), Basa Stevulova (SVK) and Conny Bleicher (GER) gave their best, none of them was able to beat Slovenian Urska Pribosic, who had also won the video clip contest the Sista Sessions had held beforehand the event. It was her clean run consisting of 50/50 on the top rail, a backside boardslide to frontside boardslide on the flat down box, and a huge backside 360 tailgrab followed by a frontside 540 over the kickers, that granted her first spot. Very close behind her came Tini Gruber, who was above all happy she got the day off in the first place and even more stoked on finishing second in this 3star TTR event. The way she stomped 5s in all directions all day long this was more than deserved. Another very, very happy face was sported by Argentinian rider Chani Michaux who almost couldn’t believe she was the best rider without sponsor and will be rocking Billabong outerwear for the next year.

Chani just learnt she has a sponsor now – as you can see she took it pretty well!

With so many so happy girls, a big party was inevitable and so everyone met again at the Gasthof Zillertal to celebrate the fabulousness of girls events – which of course many guys joined, as they always love a bunch of girls getting slightly wasted. In fact some of the girls attending the event were so eager to stay and celebrate with the rest that they threw all their plans of having only a day trip to Mayrhofen over board and started to trade and re-arrange hotel rooms, so they could all stay for the night. Obviously that ended in a bit of a chaos. But as it lies in the nature of girls they stuck together and helped each other out so that in the end everybody left the Zillertal with good memories to a great event – and maybe just a bit of sleep deprivation…

And not so local party girls enjoying the vibe

Big thanks to all the shred sistas, the organisers, and the sponsors Skullcandy, Vans, Billabong and the Mayrhofener Bergbahnen for giving us such a nice time!
