It’s so early 90s to be blaming snowboarders for causing accidents on the hill, but that hasn’t stopped the (normally exemplary) Indy from weighing in and doing just that. In this piece debating whether skiers (randomly they’re including snowboarders in that category!?) should be subject to speed limits, in the “yes” column they say “Too many people think they can strap on snowboard and rule the red runs. They need to be taught a lesson.”
Eh. All the highly-publicised recent crashes (including the tragic death of the Slovakian lady) saw skier on skier collisions. And the only lesson snowboarders need is how to avoid beginner skiers snaking across the slopes with their knees bent and bums in the air at 2mph! They also suggest it’s easier to stop on skis than a snowboard, which doesn’t fit with our experience but anyway. Crashes on the mountain are so rare and we don’t need all this media hoohah about speed limits. People just need to use common sense and only hoon it where appropriate.
