Steph Gilmore out of Vans US Open of Surfing 2013 so probably won’t be taking a sixth ASP World Title this year…bummer

Steph Gilmore has crashed out of the Vans US Open of Surfing 2013 in Round 4 after losing to Laura Enever. Looking at the maths that pretty much means an historic sixth ASP Women’s World Title is off the table, for this year at least, which we’re gutted about as we’re big fans. Actually the maths isn’t totally water tight as if Tyler Wright, Sally Fitzgibbons, Courtney Conlogue, Carissa Moore all have nightmares here at Huntington Beach and at the rescheduled Roxy Pro in September and the EDP Cascais Pro in October she could still be in with a shout. But seeing as all of those girls are already in the quarters here and flying it doesn’t look that likely.

The defending champion Lakey Peterson (below) is also out, having lost her heat to Carissa Moore, in a replay of last year’s final.

Catch the Vans US Open of Surfing action live here, after Round 4 there’s the Joel Tudor longboard invitational featuring the radical Kassia Meador (below).
