And to end this busy week on a high note for you, because we all need to feel that warm feeling in our tummies, a little bit about an inspirational and unique organization across the ocean in Hawaii, Surfing the Nations. Whilst many of us are zipping around the world indulging in our surf oddessys, sometimes, and not on purpose, we don’t pay much thought to the community that plays home to us during our adventures.
We were stoked recently to hear from Surfing the Nations, firstly because they informed us that they were big fans of our humble mag (flattery will get you everywhere!), but above all, once we learnt about the work they have been carrying out for the past 14 years, led by a team of tireless and full-of-heart volunteers. The founder of STN describes the group as like ” an octopus with many tentacles”, and when STN was founded, the concept was to integrate surfing and humanitarian work, and to make positive changes in local surf communities.
STN reaches out by carrying out everything from feeding the local homeless in Hawaii, to running programs for young kids to keep ’em out of trouble, surf internship programms, and leading surf trips to Sri Lanka and Indo to work with surfers to give back to their local communities. We can learn a lesson or two from STN’s approach, and as we all know, if you give a little love…!
